[관련기사=세계의사회장 인터뷰 "의사들의 단체행동은 기본권리...한국 정부 강경대응, 세계적으로 드물어"] 세계의사회는 "특정 한국 언론의 허위 보도기사와 달리 파업을 포함한 의사들의 단체 행동권을 단호히 인정하고 있다"라며 "의사들의 단체 행동의 윤리적 의미에 관한 세계의사회 성명은 그런 행동의 적절한 실행에 대한 명확한 지침을 제시하고 있다"고 밝혔다. 세계의사회는 "민간인으로서, 그 어떤 다른 전문인과 마찬가지로 의사에게는 자신의 역할을 선택할 자율성이 있다"라며 "근무 조건의 유지가 불가능한 경우 근무조건 개선을 주장하거나 대체할 직장을 선택할 권리가 있다"고 했다. 그러면서 "응급 상황에서 의사는 사회적 기대에 맞춰 지원할 의무가 있다"라며 "현재 한국 문제는 정부의 흠결(governmental shortcomings)에서 비롯된 것이며, 합리적인 근무 조건과 의학 교육 발전을 위한 전략적 계획을 보장하는 것은 정부의 책임"이라고 지적했다. 세계의사회는 또한 의협 비대위 5인의 압수수색과 관련해 "의협 지도자들의 목소리를 억압하려는 한국 정부의 행위를 강력히 규탄한다. 최근 이들의 컴퓨터와 휴대전화가 압수된 것은 그들의 권리에 대한 용납할 수 없는 침해이자, 민주주의 원칙에 대한 위반"이라고 강조했다. 이어 세계의사회는 "한국 정부가 국민, 특히 의료계 종사자들의 민주적 권리와 자유를 지키고 의료계가 제기하는 우려 사항을 해결하기 위해 건설적인 대화에 참여할 것을 촉구한다"고 했다. WMA’s Statement on the Ethical Implications of Collective Action by Physicians provides clear guidance on the appropriate execution of such actions. In civilian life, doctors, like any other professionals, have the autonomy to select their roles. If working conditions become untenable, they reserve the right to advocate for improvements or choose alternative employment. In emergency situations, doctors are obligated to provide assistance, aligning with societal expectations. The current challenges in Korea result from governmental shortcomings, and it is the government’s responsibility to ensure reasonable working conditions and a strategic plan for medical education development. Furthermore, the WMA strongly condemns the actions of the Korean Government in attempting to stifle the voices of elected leaders within the Korean Medical Association. The recent seizure of computers and mobile phones belonging to these leaders is viewed as an unacceptable infringement on their rights and a violation of democratic principles.
